Isle of Wight Table Tennis gears up for new season: four-division Winter League, 16 under-16 players and a Faroe Islands campaign

The Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association held its annual presentation evening on September 4, rounding off a year of local competition and setting the stage for the new Winter League season. Chairman Alex Rorke used the occasion to thank organizers Pat Thorley, Paul Cates, Tim Giles and Peter Clarke for their work behind the scenes. A key moment came when Division One player Mike Turner handed trophies to the season’s league and tournament winners and runners-up. Having an active player present the awards added a sense of connection between competitors and the association’s broader development goals. Looking ahead, the Winter League will start in early October and will again feature four divisions. The most encouraging detail is the presence of 16 under-16 players registered for the competition. For a small island association, that level of youth participation is seen as a strong signal for the future of table tennis locally. Meanwhile, the association also confirmed that a team of eight players will represent the Isle of Wight at the International Island Games in the Faroe Islands at the end of the season. That trip will give local players rare international exposure and provide valuable experience for future development. No staff changes or rule controversies were mentioned during the evening. With four competitive divisions starting in October and a national-team trip planned for later, the Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association is laying down a steady grassroots pathway.
